Our light show consists of 16,000 rgb computer controlled lights (pixels). Each light has a small circuit board that allows various commands (colors, brightness, etc) to be sent to them at anytime. This makes them individually controllable. Our big Christmas tree, called a "mega tree," is 12ft tall without the star and has 2812 lights by itself and the star on top has 207 lights!
The display panel that resembels a TV, is known as a Matrix. It is actually 20 LED panels that each contain 2,048 pixel lights for a total of 40,960 lights.
For our lights to work, they need a program and a controller. The program is what is used to create the show. The controller takes the programs information and makes the lights do what we want - it controls them.
The software that runs our show is xLights, a powerful program available at xlights.org. Our controllers are made by Falcon Christmas and Kulp Lights. All of our controllers are controlled through a single Raspberry Pi computer running a program called Falcon Pi Player (FPP).
